Robert Stevenson, Sr. Obituary

Robert Stevenson, Sr. was born on August 26, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Thomas Stevenson, Sr. and Wilhelmina Stevenson. He was the fourth of five children.

He received his education through the School District of Philadelphia, graduating from Simon Gratz High School in 1965. He worked at Mellon Bank as a Security Officer from 1972-1987. He later gained employment with the City of Philadelphia Streets Department as a Semi-skilled Laborer in 1983, ultimately retiring in 1997.

Robert loved music. In his earlier years, he was a drummer for the band “The Invaders.”  In 1974 he met Barbara Hammonds through his future sister-in-law, and they were married in 1976. In this union, they raised five beautiful children, Robert, Jr., Anthony, Anika, Rakeisha, and Erik. They were blessed with 48 years of wedded bliss.

In 1972 he began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in 1976. Robert loved the ministry and his meetings which he instilled in his family, encouraging them to make spiritual progress.

Robert was affectionately called, Bobby, Uncle Bobby, Pop-Pop, Papi & Cool dude by his family, whom he loved. He especially loved his grandchildren, whom he would dote over. He would never turn down the opportunity to spend quality time with them and he spoiled them to no end.

He enjoyed traveling, especially the summer vacations to  Wildwood, New Jersey with his family. He loved nice cars and attended the Philadelphia car show annually. Robert enjoyed nice clothes and the watches he received from his son. He was an avid 76ers fan and loved rooting for his home team.

Robert was known as the family barber, cutting the hair for many family members. He also played an integral part in raising several of his nieces and nephews, opening his home, and giving financial and emotional support when called upon.

On November 4, 2024, surrounded by his family, he fell asleep in death. He will be remembered as a loving, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Barbara Stevenson, and children Robert Stevenson Jr. (Nancy), Anthony Stevenson, Sr. (Nicole), Anika Holliday (Raheem), Rakeisha Stevenson, and Erik Stevenson.

Grandchildren, Alanna Waller(David), James McQueen, III, Jaina McQueen, Anthony Stevenson, Jr, Amber Stevenson, Jasmine Beasley (Tremaine), Amanda Stevenson, Mathew Stevenson, Elijah Stevenson, and Isaiah Stevenson. Great grandchild, London Waller

His Sister-in-laws Elease Haynes, Francis Cole, Denise Harvin, Faith Stevenson, his Brother-in-laws Horace Hammonds, Brian Harvin, and Robert English, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
