Life Story
Richard Mercer Walls, Sr. son of the late Samuel Leon Walls and Elizabeth (Millis) Walls, was born February 13, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Walls.
After graduating from Dobbins Vocational High School in Philadelphia, “Rich”, as family and friends would call him, enlisted in the United States Army where he served as Supply Sergeant. Pursuant to being honorably discharged he was united in holy matrimony to Patricia M. Wade. This union was blessed with three sons, Rodney, Richard II, and Rodger Kitt.
In his younger years, Rich worked in a bakery before successfully transitioning to the Veterans Administration. His exceptional work ethic showed in the 43 years of working as a computer operator in receipt of multiple awards for competence and excellence from the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. In his leisure time Rich enjoyed cooking, reading, doing crossword puzzles in the Inquirer, listening to jazz and engaging in current event discussions, however; his greatest pleasure was spending quality time with his family at the beach. Among a lifetime of accomplishments, he was a founding member of the Cobbs Creek Little League Baseball Team and a Prince Hall Mason- Corinthian 114 Lodge.
Rich departed this long life on the evening of August 30th, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife Patrica M. (Wade) Walls, siblings Elizabeth Anne Boddie, Catherine Broadnax Hall, and brother Samuel Leon Walls, Jr. Honoring his memory are his sons: Rodney Green of Philadelphia, PA, Richard Walls, II and his wife Donique of Burbank, CA, and Rodger Kitt Walls and his lovely wife Kym of Wynnewood, PA; three grandchildren, Kitt, Chayse and Raja and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and special friends.
