Obituary

Deacon Marion H. Dorrah, son of the late Broadus and Versena K. Dorrah, and twin brother to the late Maisha Dorrah Britt was born on October 22, 1944 in Laurens, South Carolina.

Marion accepted Christ and his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Hopewell Baptist Church in Laurens County, South Carolina.  During his early years, his family moved to Princeton NJ, where he began early childhood education.  During his pre-teen years, he moved with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he attended and then graduated from Thomas Alva Edison High School in 1962.

Marion joined the United States Marine Corps, he was stationed at Quantico in the Intelligence Department and deployed to Vietnam.  At the end of his enlistment, he returned to Philadelphia and joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 1966.  Marion met the love of his life, the late Patricia Dorrah, and they married on July 20, 1968.  They adopted a son, Anthony L. Dorrah in 1971.  Marion served 23 years in the following divisions:  Northwest Division, Police Canine Unit, Operations Office, and Juvenile Division.  Marion was promoted to Detective in 1979, and assigned to West Detective Division, Intelligence Division, and Major Investigations Division.

Marion was a Registered Representative for First American National Securities, Life-Health and Annuities Sales Agent, Residential Property Manager for Altman Realty, United States Marshals Service Court Security Officer Eastern District of Pennsylvania, United States Courts of the Third Circuit, Self Employed Real Estate Sales and Insurance Sales, Primerica Financial Services, and Notary Public Certified.

Marion was a critical thinker that would ensure he challenged your mind with his interrogative questioning.  Marion received an Associate in Science-Business, and a Bachelor of Laws from Lasalle University.   His thirst for knowledge did not stop there; he earned his Master's Degree in Finance at 69 years of age from Lincoln University.   Marion was a dedicated Deacon at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, which was a church family he deeply loved.

On Saturday, January 21, 2023, the world lost our beloved Deacon Marion H. Dorrah.  He leaves to cherish his precious memory: four children, Anthony Dorrah, Derrick Curtis, Lynette Calhoun, and Keenan Gunter-Dorrah; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-n-Law Daisey Foreman; brother-n-law, James W. Howland III; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his twin sister Maisha Dorrah-Britt, brother Bishop Henry Lee Dorrah, sister Rev Dr. Ethel Chambers-Kinard, sister Lois Cheeks, son Aaron Spencer, nephew Charles Chambers.
