Mable Amanda (nee Henry) Tabb, a 12-year resident at Simpson House in Philadelphia, PA, passed away at age 93 on October 24, 2024. Mable was born and raised in Bryn Athyn, PA, by her parents Nelson Henry, Sr. and Lucile Middleton Henry who were employees of the Pitcairn and Pendleton families at the Cairnwood Estate for over 50 years. As the sixth of seven siblings, she was the baby sister to Bettye (Lucille Elizabeth), Nelson, Jr, Forrest Clayton, Emmaline, and Alfred, and big sister to baby brother (Charles) David, all of whose passing preceded her own.
An observant Episcopalian, Mable was a member of St. Barnabas & St. Luke’s Church of Germantown, PA for many years. An excellent athlete, she was educated at Lower Moreland H.S. where she captained the girl’s basketball team. After obtaining her high school diploma, completing her education at Temple University, she embarked upon a career in the U.S. State Department which spanned over 20 years. Mable served overseas in several countries and provinces in Europe and Australia. She returned to Washington, D.C. just prior to her retirement from government service.
In addition to being a seasoned traveler, Mable was a gourmet cook and an avid tennis player as well as a fan of the sport. She enthusiastically participated in many Rambo/Rambeau Family Reunions held by a branch of the Henry family tree; and gained a great deal of satisfaction from a wide range of pursuits with friends and family over the years. “Aunt Mable” maintained close ties to her large extended family, most especially her devoted niece Lydia Ann who was her closest companion in the past decade. Mable lives on in the memories of her loving family members, as well as her friends and colleagues around the world with whom she lived and worked. A memorial is planned for Spring 2025.
