Lysa Robinson Obituary

Lysa Dawn Robinson was born June 19, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She was the daughter of the Mrs. Sunee Shirley Robinson and the late Mitchel Robinson.

From the time she was a toddler, Lysa spread the love of music as she followed in the steps of her father and pursued a career in professional music.  Lysa grew to become a popular and renown jazz percussionist in the Philadelphia area and beyond and was dubbed the nickname “Lady Rhythm”.  She had her own jazz band – “Totally Unique” – in the late 70’s and early 80’s.  Many of her bandmates are very well-known worldwide.  Throughout her career she accompanied many musical legends such as: Stevie Wonder, Grover Washington Jr., Pattie LaBelle, Pamela Williams, Bill Withers, Billy Paul, Musiq Soulchild, Prince, Tony Williams, Les Paul Roque, Pieces of a Dream, Pink, Jeane Carne, Sharon Katz and the Peace Train, Monette Sudler, Shirley Lites, Barbara Mason and many, many more.

On Thursday, the beautiful soul known as Lysa Dawn Robinson was called home.  She transitioned at Lankenau Hospital after a very brief illness, with her sister Dr. Pamela Chambers at her bedside as well as her sister Ms. Michele Robinson Brooker in attendance via FaceTime.  Lysa was never alone in this world and never wanted anyone else to feel alone.  She was strong in her faith and is, no doubt, rejoicing in the arms of the Lord our Savior and happy to be reunited with our father, grandmother, great aunts and the many other souls who we have loved and have also gone home.  She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to: her mother, Mrs. Sunee Shirley Robinson; sisters Ms. Michele Robinson Brooker and Dr. Pamela Chambers; nieces Kristine Utley, Chelsy Brooker and Corbyn Brooker; nephew Pierce Brooker; longtime friends Shirley Gaines, Vicky Perry and Paula Rogers, and scores of other friends and family.

The family will be holding a private service.
