Obituary
“Oh Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:1
Louise Carter McGarrah, daughter of Louis and Fannie (Jackson) Carter, was born on June 11, 1931. Her parents and her siblings Louis, Eli, James, Frances, Beulah, Dock (DJ) and Harold (Buddy) all preceded her in death.
On November 18, 1948, Louise was united in holy matrimony to the late Thadis McGarrah, Sr. To this union God added five children: Diane (who preceded her in death), Thadis Jr., Francine (who preceded her in death), Vanessa and Doreen. Thadis and Louise loved and cared for many children throughout their marriage, and in 1968 four more children were added to this union: Joyce, Denise, Patricia and Kenneth. At the time of her husband’s passing they had been married for 69 years.
Louise officially became a member of the Radio Church of God-Gospel Spreading Church in 1949. Along with serving as the wife of a deacon, and all that entails, Louise was also a member of the willing workers and the usher board. She was an active and dependable member of the Church of God until she and her husband stopped attending regularly due to his illness.
Louise had a giving heart. She would see the needs of others and give whatever support she could. Louise gave in secret and God truly rewarded her openly. Taking care of children and praying for them were major components of her life. She always had a word of advice and would quickly “straighten out” a mess. One of her favorite songs was “Can You Reach My Friend”. Louise was concerned with the welfare of others and showed it in the life that she lived.
Louise’s giving heart, loving correction and smile will be missed by all. She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings Lucinda Kenner and Albert Carter (Joyce); Her children: Thadis (Phyllis), Vanessa, Doreen, Joyce, Denise, Patricia and Kenneth; her daughter adopted by love, Terri; 8 grandchildren: Rhonda, Diane (Jamil), Thomas (Lori), Kilo, Wesley, Shannon, Bernard and Brandon (Porche); 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; her God-daughter, Nykkia; and a host of nieces, nephews (to the 5th generation), friends, and her much-loved church family.
