Lewis Benjamin Billups, more affectionately known as Benny to his family and friends was the son of Charles Billups and Hattie Chambers.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania January 12, 1920 where he grew up with his three brothers Luther Hundley, Leroy Hundley, and Robert Billups who have predeceased him.
In 1943, Benny enlisted in the US Army where he fought in WWII as a machine gunner. After he returned home, he resumed life with his late wife of 44 years, Pauline L. Billups, where they had seven children together. His second wife, Louise Marie Jackson predeceased him in 2006.
He was a very proud member of the Philadelphia Carpenters’ Union Local 1050 for over 30 years. Benny’s favorite pass-time for many years was in his garage tinkering away on his various cars keeping them in pristine condition, until he was no longer able.
Benny passed away at Ambler Extended Care on July 1, 2023 at the age of 103. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. His first child, Lewis, Jr predeceased him in 1942. Left to mourn are his daughters, Edith Billups-Jones, Patricia Jones, Pauline Smith, Carolyn Billups; sons, Robert and Brian Billups; sons-in-law, Johnnie Smith and Archie Jones; daughter-in-law, Timika Billups; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
