Joyce Singleton Obituary

Joyce Caroline Singleton was born on May 31, 1944 to the late Alphonso Francis Singleton and Berneatha Cromartie Singleton.  Joyce departed this life on December 30th, 2022 at Acella Rehab and Care Center at Springfield.

Joyce was the youngest of three from this union her brothers Norman Eugene (deceased), and John Alphonso (deceased).  As well as her brother Lawrence (deceased).  Joyce was the only girl, and beloved by her father.  She was a Daddy’s girl and everyone knew it!  Joyce graduated from West Philadelphia High School, and later attended Berean Institute for Cosmetology and Barber School.

Joyce was saved at an early age, and she attended Zion Baptist Church with her parents.  Joyce sang Soprano on the Mass Choir at Zion Baptist Church for many years.  She loved to sing, and she had a beautiful voice.  Joyce was also an opera singer during that time.

Joyce married James E. Boyd in January 1963. From this union, there are two daughters.  Reyavonna Boyd-Talley (Kenneth), Dr. Lennea Phillips (Howard).

Joyce remarried her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life Joseph James Green Sr. on April 9, 2000.  From this union Joyce gained five stepchildren:  Russell, Little Joe (Darnell), Kimberly (Allen), Heather (deceased), and Antione.  Joyce also had three whom she called her adopted daughters Dena Bethea, Crystal Dantzler, and Deaira Tucker.  All together throughout her lifetime Joyce had 10 whom she called her kids and she absolutely adored.  Although Joyce and Joseph ‘s marriage dissolved they remained life-long friends and always loved one another dearly.  Joyce’s children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in the time she spent with them.  They made her truly happy!

Joyce was a hard worker.  She had the strength and tenacity of a warrior, but she carried herself as a beautiful black queen. She worked several jobs to raise her girls, her grandkids, and maintain her household.  She was employed as a Quality Control Inspector for the Ford Motor Company, and a Beautician for many years.  Joyce was known as a home body, but she loved when her family gathered to spend time with her at home.  She loved cooking for her family and listening to music.

Joyce leaves to cherish and smile at her memories: her daughters, Dr. Lennea Phillips, Reyavonna Boyd-Talley, and Kimberly Manley.   Grandchildren: Charisse Nichole Maddox, Farryn, Alexis Maddox, Anthony Brandon Lloyd Zamar Diallo Lloyd, Howard Lee Phillips, Cameron Lee Phillips, LaTasha Phillips, Ariana, and Adiya Manley.  Joyce leaves to cherish her memory all of her grand and great-grandchildren.   Her Sisters: Valarie Singleton, and Darlene Menyweather.  One brother Marvin Singleton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors.

The family of Joyce C. Singleton is extremely gracious for all the calls, prayers, thoughts, texts and  condolences extended to our family during this time of bereavement.
