John H. Major Jr.

John H. Major, Jr. was born on August 24, 1939 in Milletville, South Carolina to John H. Major Sr. and Leola Riley Major.

John joined the Marine Corps in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1958.

 In 1961, John married Shirley Beaver, and they had a daughter, Dawn Major Davis in 1963.  He married Mildred “Livvy” Simmons in 1974 and they had four children, John H. Major III, Jabbar Major, and twins Ann and Christine Major. 

Affectionately known as “Bay” to friends and family, John was always the life of the party and never forgot a name.  He loved joking and spending time with his loved ones at cookouts, during the holidays or at the many house parties thrown.  John was a proud Marine and a Mason.  He was talented at many things including drawing, writing poetry, gardening, carpentry and being a handyman.

On Friday, October 22, 2021, John, a loving father and friend, passed away at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his father John Sr., mother Leola, and his grandson Christian Davis.  John is survived by:  five children, Dawn, John III, Jabbar, Ann, and Christine; brothers, Charles and Herman Major; sister, Annie Lee Davis; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
