Joan Lomax Obituary

Joan Mildred Lomax, daughter of the late Ceasar and Fannie Taylor was born April 8, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Joan was the twelfth of thirteen children.

Joan received her formal education in the Philadelphia School District, and graduated from Simon Gratz High School.

Joan was united in holy matrimony on June 11, 1950 to the late James Murray Lomax Sr. better known as "Jim".  She loved and adored Jim for 63 years, preceding her in death on January 29, 2014. From this union she became the loving mother of three children, James Jr. (Skip), Howard, and Sharon.

Joan was employed in various industries, but she is best known for her work as a clerk at Nu-Jaylon Cleaners. She made friends with her customers quickly due to her warm smile, and friendly personality.

Joan accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. During her childhood she attended Tenth Memorial Baptist Church and Waylon Temple Baptist Church. In 1970 she joined Bethem Baptist Church under the late Rev. Roland Tinsley, serving on the Trustee Board, Choir, and Church Treasurer for over 30 years.

Joan best known as "Joanie" by her family members and friends, enjoyed cooking, vacationing, and spending time sitting outside on summer evenings with Jim and neighbors.

On Saturday, May 9, 2020 when God called Joan home to glory, she left our hearts full of love, happiness, and precious memories that will never be forgotten.

Joan's memory will be cherished by her loving children, James (Patricia), Howard, and Sharon. Grandchildren Howard, Derrick, and Shaquanna. Great-Grandchildren Devon, Alexis, Alise, and Steven. Brother-in-law George Lomax (Gloria), Aunt Sarah McClinton, God Daughter Karen Taylor-Graham (Kevin) whom she loved and adored, and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
