Jessie Barnett Harris was born on October 4, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Elsie Harris and George Barnett. She was educated in the Philadelphia School system and attended Reynolds Elementary, Vaux Jr. High, and Kensington High School.
Jessie was saved and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Deliverance Evangelistic Church.
Early in life, Jessie married Aaron Taylor II, who preceded her in death. Later, she met the love of her life Milton H. Thomas who preceded her in death.
Jessie has three sons who she cherished: Fattah/Leroy, Aaron, and Terrance/Hakeem. Jessie’s sons were her life. She was a hard worker. She enjoyed working in the Restaurant Industry. Jessie who was affectionately known as “Lady J” to her family and friends, enjoyed baking. One of her favorite things to bake was an apple cake.
Jessie was a kind, loving and a generous person who touched many lives and was admired by many. However, she didn’t bite her tongue. Jessie would always tell the truth.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Joyce Finney and Ella James and her brothers Robert Harris and George Harris.
On Monday, October 18, 2021, Jessie departed life peacefully to be the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory: loving sons, Fattah/Leroy, Aaron (Renee) and Terrance (Danielle); two sisters, Delores Hubert (Charlie), Denise Harris; brother, Hakim Abdullah Hakim; four sisters-in-law, Irene Taylor, Inez Taylor, Mary Taylor, and Mary Harris Williams; two god-daughters, Darrah and Kyra; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and life long friends.
