James Minnis Obituary

James Frederick Minnis affectionately known as Jimmy, Menace, and Jim was born to the late Robert Alfred Minnis and Rose Louise Minnis in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 5, 1956. Jim was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. Upon graduation he attended the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore.

Jim’s early career path was centered around caring for others or helping people in some capacity. Hahnemann Hospital, Wallhaven Mental Facility, Catholic Charities Orphanage, and The Philadelphia Forensics Prison were all precursors to his eventual chosen profession in law enforcement. He loved being one of Philadelphia’s finest and served as a police officer for over 20 years. Jim also became a forensics expert and helped to solve many cold cases before retiring from the force (sixth district) in 2018.

Jim was a compassionate and loving husband. Jim and Terry met in the year 2000 and they were married on July 28, 2007. They were together for 23 years.

Jim studied, practiced, and competed in martial arts. He advanced to very high ranks in his earlier years. He liked to cook, sing, dance, and swim. He was adventurous and loved to travel across the U.S. and abroad. Jim enjoyed reading about the unknowns of the universe and often shared his theories to anyone that would listen. Jim was a prankster and although he was coping with serious health conditions, he kept his great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. Jim had a personal relationship with God his entire life. He practiced and studied different religions throughout his lifetime. Through his journey of faith, he made peace with his maker and suggested that everyone do the same. And most importantly Jim loved his friends and family, especially his wife, sisters, and grandchildren, you could always count on Jim to plan special activities with them and attend family functions in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Robert and Louise Minnis; sister, Roberta Minnis; brother, Aaron E. Rodgers; nephew, Kharee J. Rodgers; and brother- in- law, Morris Jenkins.
