The Obituary
Gregory M. Davis, Sr. was born on July 19, 1947 to the late Calvin Davis, Sr. and Shirley Kato Davis, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Gregory attended grade school at St. Malachys and Holy Child. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty high school in 1965. He then attended college at Virginia State and transferred to Virginia Union and obtained his bachelor’s degree in History.
After college, Gregory was drafted into the Army on July 7, 1967. He was a sergeant when he left the military on March 11, 1969. Gregory was a Vietnam War veteran with a purple heart metal, National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal with two bronze service stars, combat infantryman badge, republic of Vietnam Campaign metal, and a sharpshooter.
After the service, Gregory worked for the United States Postal service as a letter carrier for 38 years. He retired from the post office and from there took on several odd jobs. Gregory was an avid softball player and coach and an excellent bowler.
Gregory met Roxanna Truitt on August 15, 1999. They were married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 27, 2002.
Gregory valued his family tremendously and was an excellent provider and protector. Gregory was a grill master and everyone adored his food! Gregory was an excellent husband, father, brother, grandparent, son, and friend who would do anything for his loved ones.
On Friday, May 28, 2021 at 5:45 AM, God called Gregory home. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Roxanna Davis; daughter, Shannon; grandchildren, Sydney and Cedric Jr; sisters, Cheryl Davis and Tori Davis; brothers, Calvin Davis Jr, and Troy White; step-mother, Jane Davis; nephews, Troy Jr., Kato, and Jamar; nieces, Catrina and Tameka; great-nieces, Breyana and Mikayla; and a host of in-laws, and a multitude of other family members.
