Gloria Ann Caldwell

Born December 27, 1939, in Tilghman, Maryland. To James (Ike) Bell and Pauline Bell.

Gloria was a vibrant child who loved to sing, she was raised in eastern shore Maryland and graduated from Robert Moton High School, in Easton, Maryland in 1957. Gloria furthered her education by attending Maryland State College, in Princess Ann, Maryland.

In 1960 Gloria married Bernard Caldwell and moved to Philadelphia, Pa. From this marriage they had Two Sons Bernard Geoffrey Caldwell and Brian Gordon Caldwell.

Gloria, Bernard, and their sons were baptized into the Catholic faith at Holy Souls Catholic church at 19th and Tioga St. Philadelphia, Pa. In 1963 The Caldwell Family moved to West Oak Lane and joined the St. Benedicts parish, Gloria was very active in the parish community, she participated in the Parish Council, Spiritual committee, taught Sunday School, and Directed the Gospel Choir for more than 20 years, and gave her assistance whenever needed.

Gloria’s passion was singing, The Lord blessed her with a beautiful voice, that she used to sing praises to God & Jesus her Lord and Savior. She always sung in church even as a child.  To further extend her artistic talents, she attended settlement music school and learned how to play piano.

Gloria worked at Temple University Hospital as a medical secretary, taught school, worked at the board of education in a special reading program, then worked at Albert Einstein medical Center in Philadelphia as a Medical Secretary and Coordinator, she retired in 1999 then worked part time as a chiropractic assistant.

Gloria was a very warm, loving, and devoted person, she loved her family very much and only put the Lord above them. She would always say “If I Die tomorrow, I have had a wonderful life, an amazing husband, two wonderful sons, two wonderful daughters-in-laws, I have enjoyed my beautiful and loving grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as my parents, siblings’ nieces and nephews, I have been Blessed and I am very grateful.”

Gloria was predeceased by the love of her life Bernard Caldwell, parents Pauline Bell, James Ike Bell, siblings: Mary Nichols, Sewell Johnson, Isaac Bell Jr, Eddie Bell. Nephews: Joseph Nichols and Harold Nichols.

Gloria is survived by: Her Sons Bernard and Brian Daughter-in-Laws: Cynthia and April, Grandchildren: Keisha, Alise, Briana, Brandi, Brian Jr., Kevin, Jermaine, Laquanda, Rainey, Great Grandchildren: Jaela, Kennedy, Jenae, Makayla, Darius Jr., Brother: James Bell (Mary), Sister-in-Law: Francis Thomas, Brenda Brummell (John), Niece: Diane Murrell (Bobby), Extended Family: Joey Nichols (Jeanette), Lauren Van Slyke, Jason Van Slyke, (Ijeoma) Emma Nichols, Sherri Nichols, Nichelle Nichols, Charmaine Nichols, Aisha Nichols.

And a host of other family and friends.
