Frances M. Bourne

July 23, 1923 ~ December 20, 2021 (age 98)

Frances M. Bourne was born on July 23rd, 1923 to the late Kizzie and William Christian in Norfolk, Virginia.

As a young child she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Frances accepted God as her personal Savior and Friend at an early age.  In 1942 Frances met and married her late husband, Earle T. Bourne, Sr.  They celebrated 36 happy years of marriage.  To this union they had 5 children:  Mary, Earlene, Victoria, Earle, Jr. and Frank.

As a young mother she was a wonderful homemaker.  Frances had strong faith and raised her children in a Christ centered  home.  She always spoke of  "how fulfilling and fun it was to raise her children and grow with them."  She was a loving, spiritual, honest, caring, moral Mother.  She instilled these values in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to give them tools to function in the world.  Mom was a beacon of love, faith, hope and strength.

She was a member of AME Union church for over 50 years where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and worked diligently as a faithful Stewardess. In her later years she became a member of Sayres Memorial United Methodist Church.

Frances completed Standard Evening High School in 1952 while raising her 5 children. This caused the attention of the Philadelphia Inquirer who then wrote an article. She completed a program for mature women in Business at the Wharton School, University of Pa.  Frances also completed a program in Christian Education and Counseling at Eastern Baptist Seminary.

Mom, Grandmom, Great Grandmom, G-Mom was such a good listener and gave such great advice.  Her children thank God for the blessing of having her in their lives.

On Monday, December 27, 2021, the Lord called Frances home.  She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to: her five children, Mary Fontaine-Maddox, Earlene Riley, Victoria Wakefield (James), Earle T, Bourne, Jr. (June) and Frank Bourne; Grandchildren:  Phyllis Fontaine-Ray (Errol), Thomas Fontaine, Terrance Wakefield (Meltonya), Carlton Wakefield (Olivia), Kelly Bourne-Pugh (Eric), Chad Bourne, Dr. Scott Bourne and Tammy Mckay-Smith (Mike), Eric Riley (Heidi), Mark Riley, Dr. Beth Riley-Sells (Wayne); Greatgrandchildren: Kennedy Bourne-Williams, Aaron Bourne, Armonte Bourne, Carly Wakefield, Carlton Wakefield, Jr., Dominique Williams, Quinn Wakefield, Deshae Wakefield,  Matthew Smith, Mason Smith, Watson Riley, Alexandra Riley, Jasmine Sells, Quincy Sells and a host of other relatives neighbors and friends.
