Evelyn C. Alexander

Evelyn Cordelia Alexander was born December 21, 1930 in Edenton, NC.  Evelyn passed away on Friday August 6, 2021 in Braselton, GA at 1:48 a.m.  Evelyn was in Georgia for a brief time when she took ill.  Her home is in Philadelphia PA.

Evelyn was the eldest born of 4 to the late Albert Blair and Agnes Jordan Blair.  Albert Blair remarried after the passing of Agnes Jordan Blair and was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Beatrice Blair and three children were born from that union.

Evelyn completed her education and graduated with high honors at Plymouth Colored High in Plymouth, NC.  Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age while attending Mt. Ebrom AME Church. Evelyn moved to Philadelphia after graduating from High School and became reacquainted with her hometown friend Herbert Lee Alexander.  They were joined in Holy Matrimony on October 30, 1954.  From this union three children were born, Herbert Jr., Karen, and Gregory.

Evelyn was employed at Parkview Hospital in Philadelphia PA for 25 years and retired at the age of Sixty-two.  Evelyn volunteered at Price Hall Elementary School, where they later enrolled her at Harcum College to tutor students. Upon graduating Evelyn was hired by Price Hall Elementary School to tutor students in Reading.

Evelyn enjoyed traveling, especially with her siblings.  They traveled and took many cruises and bus trips around the world. 

Evelyn joined Word Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA and enjoyed singing on the Senior Choir and Adult Choir under the leadership of Pastor Michael K. Heath and First Lady Crystal Heath.

Evelyn was respected and loved by everyone who knew her.  Evelyn was known for her great wisdom and strong character.  Evelyn was three times a lady and one in a million.

Evelyn closed her eyes and went home with the Lord on August 6, 2021 at the age of 90. She leaves many cherished memories to: two children Karen Wilson and Gregory (Laura) Alexander, four grandchildren, Christopher (Kia) and Samuel Wilson, Phylicia Smith-Alexander (Lyle) and Gregory Alexander Jr., five great-grand children Imani, Ciani, and Jayden Wilson, Joshua Smith-Alexander and Louis Devon Reed. Two brothers, Claude Blair of Wilmington, NC, Kenneth Blair (Judy), 4 sisters, Frances Franks (Vernon), Agnes Turner (Lester), Missouri Blair all of Philadelphia, PA, and Melody Frazier (Larry) of Temecula, CA, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Alexander Sr., son Herbert Alexander Jr. and grand daughter Tamara Wilson.
