Emily G. Jones

OBITUARY

Emily Georgianna Jones, age eighty-six, departed this life quietly on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at her Winter Growth Assisted Living residence.

Emily was the youngest child of the late James Robert and Sarah (Morris) Johnson.  She was born on September 12, 1935* and raised on the Eastern Shore in Eastville, Virginia.  She attended elementary and high school in Northampton County and was a longstanding member of the Bethel AME Church.  She attended North Carolina College in Durham, NC for 1 year before transferring to Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA where she graduated with a degree in Sociology.

She was passionate about children and worked for a variety of agencies as a social worker, including Lower Merion Mental Health Center’s A Better Chance program for youth; Montgomery County Day Care Association’s centers in Conshohocken and Ardmore; and Women’s Christian Alliance’s Grandparents as Parents program.  She married the late Samuel L. Jones and they later divorced.

She enjoyed reading, bingo, word searches, and tv shows, including Wheel of Fortune, Lifetime movies and the Real Housewives.

She leaves to mourn her daughter, Jocelyn; son, Stephen; grandchildren, Brayden, Ava Rose, and Maya; nieces, Stephanie and Claudette; nephews, Curtis (Linda), Jeffrey (Pam), Craig and other relatives and friends.
