David Gilliam, Sr. Obituary

David E. Gilliam, Sr., the son of the late Roy and Cora Jasper Gilliam, was born on September 6, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from Simon Gratz High School.

In October of 1955, David married Mildred Lewis.  Together they had two children: David Jr. and Jill Anne.

David served in the United States Army for two years and then went to work for the United States Postal Office, from which he retired 30 years later.

After retiring from the post office, he worked for about ten more years as a guard and para transit driver.

Over the years David was blessed with five grandchildren.

David loved to busy himself with do-it-yourself projects around the house.

He took pride in keeping Mayland Street clean, and even received a plaque from the block honoring him for that service.

David loved to travel and loved jazz and Brazillian music.

He was very knowledgeable about world affairs.

David was an avid lottery player and loved to talk about his wins at the casino, which grew bigger and bigger every time he told the story.

David was predeceased by his older brother Roy Jr and younger brother Kenneth. He is survived by his twin Donald.

On Thursday, July 7, 2022 God called David home. He leaves to mourn his death: his wife Mil, his children David Jr, and Jill, grandchildren David 3rd, Nica, Khadijah, Fateem, and Nina, great grands Alanna, Egypt and Hussain.

Also, many other relatives and friends.
