David Bowen Obituary

David “Dave” Paul King Bowen was born on April 29, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; he was the oldest child to the late Hartwell King Bowen and Margaret “Peggy” McCarthy. His older sister Katherine (Kay) Yvonne Bowen preceded him in death.

Dave was born and raised in West Philadelphia. He attended Overbrook High School. After high school, Dave went on to work for the United States Postal Service prior to being drafted into the United States Armed Forces where he bravely served our country during the Vietnam War. While serving in Vietnam David was wounded and was decorated with a “Purple Heart” medal to honor his service.

In 1974, David united with Darlene Smith and welcomed his only daughter Tamara Bowen- Gunn. In 1983, David married Nancy Baylor from this union they would welcome Noah Baylor, David J Bowen, and Joshua Bowen. In October 2016, he reunited and married his high school sweetheart Anita Covert.

David had a heart of gold always willing to help whomever he could, however he could. He was definitely one of a kind. Dave was also the family comedian, he kept us laughing, he had a joke for every mood. He leaves us with many beautiful memories that we will cherish and laugh about for years to come. Dave loved his wife, and all of his family dearly and never shied away from reminding each and every one of them each opportunity they spoke. He had a special bond with his beloved daughter Tamara, they were more like best friends. He called her General Tammy because she often acted as if she was his parent, but always with respect and only out of her love for him. God dispatched his angels to carry David home April 8, 2020. Tamara was with her father hand in hand lovingly comforting him and reminding him he was loved as he took his last breath.

David was preceded in death: by his beloved niece April Bowen, and nephews Christopher Loveless and Almir Alwyn.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Anita Covert-Bowen, his children, daughter Tamara Bowen-Gunn, and sons Noah Baylor, David J Bowen and Joshua Bowen, daughter in law Sasha Bowen. His beloved grandchildren Terrance and Troy Newton, Bobbi Amor Gunn, Jayla Bowen and David King Bowen, Great Grandson Thaddeus Newton, Nephews Charles Christopher Bowen and Jon Jon Loveless along with a host of family and friends.

David Paul King Bowen will be greatly missed.
