Carolyn Agnes Crawford
Carolyn Agnes Crawford, a devoted mother, proud grandmother, cherished sister, and lifelong friend to many, passed away on November 13th, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, to Albert David Jones and Bernice Elizabeth Simms, Carolyn was a woman whose kindness touched everyone she encountered and whose quiet strength shaped the lives of all who knew her.
A Life Built on Faith and Education
Carolyn was a proud member of the first graduating class of Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1959, a milestone that reflected her lifelong commitment to education. She went on to earn her degree in Spanish from Chestnut Hill College in 1963, demonstrating early on that she valued knowledge as a pathway to opportunity. Education wasn't just important to Carolyn—it was sacred. She worked tirelessly to ensure her three sons attended Catholic elementary and high schools, instilling in them the values she held dear: kindness, faith, and service to others. NOT attending college was NOT an option.
A Career Marked by Dedication
For her entire working career, Carolyn served as a Sales and Service Representative at Bell Telephone/Verizon. Her incredible work ethic was legendary—she rarely missed a day, approaching her responsibilities with unwavering commitment and professionalism. She took her work seriously but never herself, a balance that endeared her to colleagues and customers alike.
The Heart of a Mother
Carolyn was widowed by her husband, Robert Louis Crawford, and her greatest pride and joy came from raising her three sons: Christopher Crawford, Geoffrey Crawford, and Andrew Crawford. She worked tirelessly, sacrificing and somehow always making ends meet so her boys could have the structure and guidance of Catholic education and faith.
At age 44, when many would have considered it too risky, Carolyn chose life and welcomed her youngest son, guided by her unshakeable faith. She was a great "boy mom," allowing her sons to be themselves, to learn from their mistakes, and to grow into the men they became. She hammered them about homework and good grades, but she also let them fail when they needed to learn.
Her legacy continued through her two beloved grandchildren, Darion and Jaydon. Carolyn absolutely loved being "Mom-Mom," spending countless hours on the phone and in person, staying engaged in their lives. They kept her "hip," and she was blessed to watch both grow into young men.
A Woman of Simple Wisdom and Boundless Generosity
Carolyn had a gift for making everyone feel like family. She was a second mother to many of her sons' friends, always asking how they were doing, always welcoming them with open arms. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and acceptance.
She lived by simple wisdom and practiced what she preached. No matter how little she had, she shared her resources. Being kind and giving back weren't just ideals—they were how she lived every single day.
Carolyn was funny as hell. She played along with every silly idea her sons came up with, never taking herself too seriously. She was competitive in everything—card games, board games, miniature golf (where she once hit a hole-in-one), and even go-kart racing. Well into her 80s, she remained active, spirited, and engaged with life.
Her kitchen table was her sanctuary—a book open in front of her, the TV murmuring in the background. An avid reader, she found peace in those quiet moments, even when the world around her was hectic.
A Philadelphia Heart
Carolyn loved Philadelphia and never strayed far from her roots. She cherished being close to her three sisters, Helen, Dorothy, and Barbara, and the rest of her extended family. .
A Legacy of Love and Resilience
Above all, Carolyn Crawford was one of the least self-righteous people you'd ever meet. She didn't preach—she lived her faith. She didn't demand perfection—she offered grace. She didn't just survive challenges—she transcended them, making sure her children always had what they needed, even when it seemed impossible.
Her sons, daughter in-law, grandchildren, sisters, and countless friends will forever carry her memory: a woman who was loyal, committed, kind to everyone, and whose quiet strength made the impossible possible.
Rest in peace, Mom. You did more than enough. You did everything.
