Bertha Caison Obituary

Mother Bertha E. Caison was born on September 3, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She was the second oldest child born to the late Randolph Minor and Dorothy White.

Bertha was raised in Philadelphia and educated in the public school system.  She was employed by Marriott Corporation for many years as a Server and Cook.  On June 27, 1959, at the age of 18 years old and with the consent of her mother, she was married to the love of her life Allie Caison who preceded her in death.  This loving union produced three beautiful children: Valerie, Stephanie and Mark.   After having children, she became an amazingly devoted Homemaker until she retired.

Bertha accepted Christ at the age of 28, and received her Baptism on July 17, 1970, at Shiloh Apostolic Temple, from this day forward her faith in God grew stronger and unbreakable.  She became a powerful prayer warrior for the Lord.

Bertha and her late husband joined Deliverance Evangelistic Church in 1978, under the leadership of the late Pastor Benjamin Smith, Sr.  She was baptized again on June 17, 1978, at Deliverance.  Bertha was a loyal and faithful servant; she was a member of the Mother’s Board, and she served on the Usher Board. Bertha was also a Missionary and travelled to Haiti and the Holy Lands of Israel (she worked hard to spread the Gospel and hope of Jesus Christ).   She also served on the Prayer Chain and was a dedicated member on the Early Morning Choir.  In the Summers, she volunteered as a chaperone at Camp Evangel where she provided meals for all the children. She was a mother to many of the young people at Deliverance. To know her was a blessing.

After the death of her husband, she joined True Light Fellowship Church on August 4, 2013, under the leadership of Pastor Wesley Pinnock, where she served on the Mother’s Board until her health declined and she was no longer physically able to attend church.

Bertha enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as their “Mom-Mom.”  She enjoyed listening to inspirational music, reading (especially her bible), writing and attending outings with her family. Bertha was known for giving big hugs, prayers and words of spiritual wisdom and guidance.  She was known to “Ear Whip You”, but you could always find comfort in her presence.

Bertha departed this life in her home on Saturday July 2, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves to cherish her memory and love, three children Valerie, Stephanie (Shiretta) and Mark; one Aunt Helen Humphrey, one Uncle LeVerne White, six grandchildren Michael, Valerie, Vash-tiy, Victoria, Mark Jr. and Markell; two great granddaughter’s Olivia and Charlie, four great grandson’s Mark Jr. III, Myles, Markell Jr. and Ari.  Her older brother Jerry Clayton White preceded her in death; two sisters Delores Fields and Darlene Devaughn, three brothers Randolph Minor, Theodore Baldwin and David Baldwin, one goddaughter Norma Jean Williams and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and life-long friends.  She was also a surrogate mother and grandmother to many of whom shared a very special place in her heart.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

II Timothy 4:7 (NIV)
