Life Story
Bernard H. Pugh, Sr. was born on January 9, 1934 to late Paul H. Pugh Sr. and Doshia Pugh.
Bernard accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.
Raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bernard received his formal education in the Philadelphia School System. He graduated from Bok High School in 1952. After graduating, Bernard joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and was Honorable discharged in 1957.
Bernard married Mary Elizabeth Pugh on July 16, 1966 to this union three children, Bernard Pugh Jr, Eugenia Pickens, and Rosalyn Bethea.
Bernard spent a substantial amount of time working with Strick Tractor Trailer (Trucking Company) as a machine operator. Later, he was employed with Alden Rubber Company also as a machine operator for 25 years until he retired.
As an avid football enthusiast, Bernard loved the Philadelphia Eagles. His other passions were fishing, which he loved, and spending time with family. He also loved playing “Stratego” with his baby boy!
Bernard was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Mary Elizabeth Pugh in 1991; father, Paul H. Pugh Sr.; mother, Doshia Pugh; three brothers, Paul Pugh, Jr. William Pugh, Mark Pugh; two sisters, Yolanda Evans and Eleanor Pugh.
On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, God in his infinite called Bernard home. He leaves precious memories to: son, Bernard H. Pugh, Jr. (Melissa); two daughters, Eugenia Pickens and Rosalyn Bethea; two brothers, Reverend Matthew Pugh and Manassett Pugh; four sisters, Mary E. Stokes, Reberta Hicks (Reverend David Hicks), Lillian Harper, and Mozella Hayward; six grandchildren, James, Bennie, LaToya, Samir, Brielle, and Nia; Thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
