Born at Women’s Medical Hospital in Philadelphia, PA on May 1, 1961, Benjamin Carlton Evans, Jr was the third child of the late Benjamin C. Evans Sr. and the late Sarah A. Evans (nee Barnwell). They lived in North Philadelphia but moved to Weatham Street in West Mt. Airy soon after Ben was born.
Ben attended Henry H. Houston and Plymouth Meeting Friends for elementary school and attended Germantown Christian Academy and Martin Luther King High School for middle and high school.
Ben was known for his beautiful smile, charming personality, and great singing voice. ‘Joy to the World’ by Three Dog Night was one of his favorite songs. He was a loyal friend who would defend to the end. His fearless attitude led him to forge a singular approach to life that was often joyous and full of love and sometimes challenging for himself and others, including family and friends. He was fun to be around and his sense of humor could be absolutely devastating and hilarious at the same time. There were many good laughs with him and an equal number of tears.
On January 1, 2023, God called Ben home. He has passed on from us to join his loving parents on his journey from this plane to the next. He is survived by: son, Benjamin C Evans III; daughter, Kandice Evans; sisters, Carletta Downs, Aleta Evans, and Elana Evans; nieces, Tamara Williams and Quinia Evans; nephews, Elliott Thompson, Brandon Evans, Chris Russo, Thomas Downs and Finn Downs; great-nephew, Dominic Sanders; cousin, Michelle Robinson Rosbia; and a host of family and friends.
He will be in our hearts and our memories as we go forward in our lives.
May he rest in peace.
