Archie Peay Obituary

Archie G. Peay was born on May 3, 1943 in Chester, South Carolina.  He was the eldest of three children born to the late Claudia Green (nee Addison).

Archie was raised in Concord, North Carolina, and received his early childhood education in the Concord public school system.  As a teenager, Archie’s family relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and he graduated from West Philadelphia High School.

In October of 1963, Archie enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a Basic Airman specializing in vehicle operation.  During this time, he received a medal for good conduct as well as the Outstanding Unit Award.   He was honorably discharged on July 23, 1965.

Following his discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Archie returned to Philadelphia and joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 1965.  He began as an officer and was later promoted to a homicide detective.  During his employment he received many accolades and awards.  After a distinguished career that spanned thirty years, Archie retired from the police department in 1995.

Archie had many hobbies, including a love for music that began as a child.  He played the clarinet as well as other instruments, and had a recording studio in his basement where he shared his love for music with family and friends alike.  He also loved spending time outdoors, and will be missed for his outgoing personality and infectious smile.

Archie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was raised in the Christian faith.  On Sunday morning, June 7, 2020, God in His infinite wisdom called Archie home.  He leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to: his sons, Julian and Darryl; grandchildren, Ciani, Jaden and Michael; one brother, Charlie Flowe (Adrienne); one sister, Carolyn Coker; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other loving relatives and many special friends.
